The
CINCO DE MAYO celebration is held annually. This
year the festival will be held on May 2nd through May 4th,
2008 and offers a wide variety of events held in Douglas
Park located at 1401 S. Sacramento Avenue, Chicago,
Illinois.
FESTIVAL:
The
celebration begins with the Festival, a colorful,
lively, and entertaining mix of diverse family
oriented attractions, such as live music, food vendors,
carnival rides and games. The estimated 200,000 people
who attended last year's four-day Festival enjoyed a
relaxed, friendly, safe atmosphere and the opportunity
to spend time with their family and friends. The
Festival will feature live music performed by local and
international talent, food vendors offering a taste of
Chicago's best cuisine, and a wide assortment of
carnival rides and games. The CINCO DE MAYO 2008
FESTIVAL offers something for everyone.
SOCCER TOURNAMENT:
This is held at
Douglas Park 1401 S. Sacramento Ave.
The two-day Soccer Tournament will bring together teams
from four of the largest soccer leagues in the State of
Illinois to compete against each other. Last year's
soccer component included an under 20 tournament, where
teams from four leagues played against each other in a
"Round robin' alignment. The event was enjoyed by
approximately 30,000 spectators over the entire weekend
and proved to be immensely popular with the crowd. This
year's tournament is sure to surpass its predecessors in
popularity, excitement, and attendance.
SCHOLARSHIP BANQUET:
which is scheduled
for
May 2, 2008, (Banquette Location is
Pending) the banquet brings together an audience of over
500 to enjoy an elegant evening of dining, dancing, and
the awarding of scholarships to Hispanic students.
VIP
BREAKFAST:
The
VIP Breakfast honors the civic leaders whose combined
efforts help make the CINCO DE MAYO celebration
the proven success. Held in a selected restaurant in the
heart-of Chicago's Mexican - American community, the VIP
Breakfast provides a congenial platform for the
recognition of all those who contributed to the
Festival's success, and kicks off the last day of
festival activities.
PARADE:
The highlight of the festival, The Cinco de Mayo Parade,
will be held on May 4th 2008. In 2007, over
150 floats and organizations were involved. The
participants will march along a route beginning at Damen
Avenue and Cermak Road. They will travel west along
Cermak to Marshall Blvd. The Cinco de Mayo is a popular
event with both spectators and participants. |
